Root Hog

5/18/2010 - Looking back on the tour now, we are so happy to have been able to get out and see so many new faces, as well as old faces we had no idea would be around.

After our day off, spent roaming the countryside and seeing the Martin guitar factory in Nazareth, PA, we made our way towards Wilmington, DE. The MOJO 13 was an intimidating venue, for sure, but we were sure to rock it out. Later, we moved on to the big apple, where we played Sullivan Hall for Cinco De Mayo. Thanks are in order to Jennie Armon for helping us promote that event. We had a great time and managed to slip around the corner later that night to catch Chick Corea at the Blue Note! It must have been inspirational, because at Hank's in Brooklyn the next night we were definitely in the mood to jam. It must have been contagious, as one of the audience members joined us on stage to sing of how we would be alright. The following evening, we were entertained by our new friends the Szalaj's in Manchester,CT, who took care of us before and after our show and sent us well fed, well rested, and well prepared to tackle the last show of tour in Manhattan once again, at the National Underground.

Finishing the tour out,we decided to head back to the simpler midwest and take a much needed break.

We would like to thank all the bands we played with, the people who supported us, the venues that hosted us and anyone else who we met along the way. It was a great time and we are happy to have done it.

5/3/2010 -
We are now a couple of days in to the tour and things are going great. We were very happy to play at Wilbert's in downtown Cleveland on Saturday and got very lucky to meet some new friends, who we played with... Ginger Brown. We look forward to bringing them to Lafayette very soon.

Wilbert's is a first class rock and roll club and we enjoyed being allowed to turn it up and rock and then we had a chance to explore the more intimate side of our sound the very next night. The Boulder Coffee Co. in Rochester NY offers free live music any night of the week and we can not say enough good things about the fine folks who shared the evening with us.

Now, we are greatly enjoying a beautiful day off driving across upstate New York and seeing some great views. Keep watching for updates here and we will keep you updated.

While we are toiling away with all of the normal hullaballoo of being in a band, our East Coast tour is fast upon us. We hope to meet many new friends and have some interesting stories as we go. Watch the website for a tour journal as we make our way.

In the meantime, we are excited for our on air set at WLUW Chicago Radio One 88.7FM next Thursday (April 29). It is always great news to hear that the Hog is being broadcast across the radio waves and what is really special to us this time is that we will get to do some live tracks in the studio as well as a little interview. If you do not live in the Chicago area, you can stream the in studio session at WLUW.org (this show will only be streamed, not archived, so you can only listen next Thursday... set your calendars!)

Speaking of new radio outlets for listening to Root Hog... Lafayette's own WSHP 95.7FM the Rocket has been showcasing local music as of recently and they would like to hear any local opinions. Make sure you give them a call or email and let them know that you want to hear Root Hog as well as any other of your favorite Lafayette artists, like snorb!, Fredericks Martinez or any others. We are so excited to announce our first ever East Coast Spring tour. It has been so much fun playing the midwest, and we intend to do plenty more of it, but reaching out to the East, getting on the road and bringing the Root Hog message to whole new audiences is something we are really excited about.

We are also so grateful to all of our hometown folks who have supported us and made things like this tour possible. We are hoping to meet some good people on the road as well, and we will be sure to keep you all updated on our way!

In the meantime, we hope to see you all this weekend, Saturday April 10 at the Lafayette Brewing Company in downtown Lafayette. We will be sharing the stage with LadyMoon from Indianapolis and the New Old Cavalry from Bloomington. And, as if that is not enough, there will be an afterparty at Hunter's Pub Down Under with Louisville's Bad Blood and West Lafayette's own No Hay Banda to keep you rocking late in to the night. All of this can be had for a mere $5 and will surely be the best rock for dollar value in town!

Well, the competition has come and gone and at the end of the day, we have to congratulate MidWest Hype for bringing out the votes and winning this year's Summer Camp on the Road Tour Battle of the Bands. They certainly brought a great performance, and we look forward to seeing them down the road.

There is still plenty of reason for celebration, though! We were so humbled to see so many folks drive to Indianapolis late on a Sunday evening and do their very best to help out the Hog... we just wonder what we have done to deserve such amazing people. If you made it out last night, we tried our very best to give you a good show and we can't wait to play our hearts out for you again.

Speaking of...

You can catch the Hog again on Saturday April 10 at one of our very favorite venues, the Lafayette Brewing Company. We will be playing with Bloomington's the New Old Cavalry and Indy's own LadyMoon. Following Root Hog's set, there will be an after party at Hunter's Pub Down Under where No Hay Banda will be opening for Louisville's Bad Blood. What a great night of music and it all starts at the LBC at 9... only $5!

Also, in the realm of exciting news, Root Hog is very happy to announce our first East Coast tour! The band will be leaving in early May and spend about a week on the East Coast. We are excited to bring some Indiana grooves out East. Keep an eye on our shows calendar for upcoming dates and watch your Inbox for updates!

Now, when you get lonely and need a little more Root Hog in your life, just have a gander at this video that Manny Cervantes directed for us, using our song 'So Damn Hard'

Root Hog has so many things in the works coming up, that we haven't taken any time to catch up with you all on our plans for the Spring. After warming up 2010 with some shows scattered around Indiana and Illinois, the band locked themselves up ina rehearsal space, in what is becoming a yearly tradition in February, and cranked out some new tunes. Now that the new material has been road tested we are focused on our next big task... winning the Birdy's Battle of the Bands competing for a spot on this years Summer Camp Festival.

Last year, Root Hog made a solid effort, with several Lafayette folks showing their support and making the drive to Indy. Root Hog took second place and were so proud of the support that Lafayette showed. This year we are asking for your help once more. We will be competing in Indianapolis again, and against Indianapolis bands once again, so we will have to bring as many folks as possible to have a shot at this years festival, but we think we can do it. This years battle is Sunday March 28. If you need a ride or help in any way please email us at matt@roothogmusic.com and we will do everything to make sure that you are able to come out and support Lafayette at this battle.

After we win the Birdy's battle, we can celebrate at one of our very favorite venues, the Lafayette brewing Company.

Saturday April 10, Root Hog will be performing with Indianapolis jam phenom LadyMoon and Bloomington natives the New Old Cavalry. The show starts at 9 and will only be $5. After the Brew Co set, you can scamper down to the band's favorite late night spot, Hunter's Down Under to catch the after show with Bad Blood, from Louisville, and No Hay Banda from West Lafayette. That's 5 bands at $5. Nothing in town will have a better deal.
